Things to Do in Vancouver, WA

Build a day around the Columbia River, downtown stops and local history. These routes help you choose a manageable outing, with official sources for the details that can change before you arrive.

Choose your starting point

Walk the Vancouver waterfront

Start at Vancouver Waterfront Park, west of I-5 and south of downtown. Grant Street Pier extends over the Columbia River, and the park has paved paths and places to pause by the water. The city describes the main path as fairly flat and provides accessibility details on its park page.

For a longer walk or bike ride, use the Columbia River Renaissance Trail, also called the waterfront trail. It runs east toward Wintler Park, with an inland sidewalk section at Renaissance Pointe. Choose a turnaround point suited to your group instead of assuming the full route is a short loop. Check city notices before planning around playgrounds or water features.

Pair Esther Short Park with the farmers market

Esther Short Park, at 605 Esther Street, gives a downtown visit a central meeting place. Its lawn, paved paths, Salmon Run Bell Tower and inclusive playground offer different reasons to stop. Pair the park with a nearby meal rather than moving the car for every part of the day.

The Vancouver Farmers Market’s downtown market is beside the park at 8th and Esther. Look for farm products, prepared food and artisan goods. Its published schedule changes between April–October and November–March; check the organizer’s timetable for your visit. On other days, use our Downtown business listings to find a café, restaurant or bookshop and follow its official website for hours.

Explore Fort Vancouver and aviation history

Begin at the Fort Vancouver Visitor Center, 1501 East Evergreen Boulevard, for exhibits and an introduction to the site. The national historic site includes the reconstructed Hudson’s Bay Company fort and Vancouver Barracks. The National Park Service’s visitor information distinguishes free areas from the reconstructed fort’s entrance fee and links to current conditions.

For an indoor stop, Pearson Air Museum at 1115 East 5th Street covers aviation at Pearson Field through aircraft and exhibits. Confirm building hours before setting the order of your day. If you want to connect history with a walk, the city’s 2.3-mile Discovery Historic Loop Trail links the historic site, Officers Row and downtown with the waterfront trail.

Make Vancouver Lake a separate outdoor trip

Vancouver Lake Regional Park, at 6801 Northwest Lower River Road, is a choice for a picnic, birdwatching or a walk away from downtown. The county lists both asphalt and gravel or dirt paths, plus a 2.5-mile paved connection to Frenchman’s Bar Regional Park. Allow for the distance back if you follow that connecting trail.

Check the county’s parking fees and seasonal pet rules before leaving. For any activity involving the water, read Clark County’s current beach advisories and posted notices; a park visit does not establish that the lake is suitable for swimming that day.

Put the day together

Choose one main area, then add a second stop if time and weather allow. Our Vancouver events calendar can help you find a dated activity, while local updates provide context for projects and community changes. The business directory lets you compare neighborhoods and categories without treating a listing as a promise that a business is open now.
